Samsung Medical Center announced on July 30 that its English-language website earned a main "Winner" prize in the Brand & Communication Design category at the Red Dot Design Award 2026.

Judges commended the hospital's revamped site architecture for making essential clinical information easily accessible to international patients. The award recognizes the portal’s tailored information structure, clear brand presentation, and design quality.

Samsung Medical Center completed a comprehensive overhaul of the portal in November last year. Going beyond cosmetic updates, the hospital restructured its digital framework to mirror the step-by-step journey international patients undergo when seeking care.

A key enhancement includes the reorganization of the portal's "Health Library," which features comprehensive guides on major diseases. The site now directly links medical conditions with relevant clinical departments, attending physicians, and health literature. This allows visitors researching a specific condition to seamlessly navigate from educational content to the appropriate medical specialists.

The hospital also transformed its international patient service pages. By separating inpatient and outpatient guidance into distinct submenus, the site moves away from cluttering screens with excessive information. Instead, it offers structured, sequential guidance covering every stage of treatment, from pre-visit preparation to clinical care. Recognizing cultural, linguistic, and healthcare system differences across countries, the hospital redesigned its layouts and navigation paths to maximize usability.

Since the overhaul, the hospital has reported a steady influx of global visitors from countries including the United States, Singapore, India, and China.

"This award reflects the collaborative efforts of multiple departments dedicated to modernizing our international digital presence," said Lee Jeong-eon, head of external cooperation at Samsung Medical Center and a professor of breast surgery who led the overhaul task force. "We will continue to communicate Samsung Medical Center’s world-class medical capabilities through a digital platform optimized for global search environments."

Established in Germany in 1955, the Red Dot Design Award is an international competition evaluating entries across Product Design, Design Concept, and Brand & Communication Design. The Brand & Communication category specifically assesses how effectively an organization presents its brand identity and delivers clear, accessible information to users.
