Singer Lee Seok-hoon revealed that he underwent a harsh diet in the past.
On the 30th broadcast of KBS 1TV ‘Morning Yard’, Lee Seok-hoon addressed rumors of having plastic surgery, saying, “It’s a nice rumor,” and added, “I lost a lot of weight. I steadily gained weight and reached 100kg during high school, and I maintained that weight for a while,” showing past photos of himself when he was chubby.
He said, “Then, while preparing to become a singer, I lost a lot of weight, and now I maintain a weight that suits me. I lost 38kg at one point, and there are times when my friends from high school don’t recognize me when I greet them from a distance,” he said.
Lee Seok-hoon mentioned, “When I debuted, I was too skinny, and now I feel like I shouldn’t be that skinny, so I maintain a weight that fits my body. Since I took on this profession, I’ve always been on a diet,” he revealed. Kim Ji-woo praised him, saying, “Even during musical rehearsals, he sticks to that diet. When we practice, we all go out to eat, but he really sticks to his diet. It’s really impressive.”
Lee Seok-hoon previously shared his diet method through his YouTube channel. He said, “I only ate a handful of cherry tomatoes, a few eggs, and sweet potatoes, and by exercising, I lost 15kg in a month,” and added, “But at a young age, I lost weight recklessly, and my body was completely ruined. I had absences, felt fatigued, and had blood in my urine due to the extreme weight loss,” he expressed the side effects of drastic weight loss.
Having harmed his health with excessive dieting, Lee Seok-hoon recently mentioned that he does gym workouts on an empty stomach and eats chicken breast to maintain a healthy weight of 72kg.
Eating too little while exercising can lead to nutritional deficiencies and muscle loss
If you consume only a handful of cherry tomatoes, a few eggs, and sweet potatoes like Lee Seok-hoon while exercising, your total caloric intake can become extremely insufficient compared to your body’s needs, leading to the consumption of not only fat but also body water, muscle, and stored energy.
Nutritional imbalance is also a problem. Eggs contain protein, but they may be far from the daily requirement. Additionally, with almost no fat intake, the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins can be hindered. The intake of essential minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, and sodium can also be insufficient, leading to fatigue, lethargy, and dizziness.
The risk of gallstones or kidney stones may also increase. Rapid weight loss in a short period can raise the cholesterol concentration in bile and reduce gallbladder contraction, creating an environment conducive to gallstone formation. Furthermore, if water intake is insufficient or if the diet is high in oxalic acid from sweet potatoes and tomatoes, the risk of kidney stones increases.
It is important to consume a balanced diet with sufficient protein and hydration
Moreover, if you exercise under these conditions, the problems can worsen. When energy and protein supply are insufficient, muscle is more likely to be broken down before fat. A decrease in muscle mass can reduce basal metabolic rate, increasing the risk of becoming a body type that gains weight more easily.
Therefore, to continue dieting while maintaining health, it is essential to increase protein intake sufficiently, consume small amounts of healthy fats and a variety of vegetables, and maintain hydration of 1.5 to 2 liters or more to ensure that bodily functions operate normally.
