Korean actress Jung Hye-young is proving that age is truly just a number, showcasing a lean, toned physique that defies her 52 years.

Recently, Jung shared a video of her workout routine on social media with the ambitious caption, "To become a muscle grandma in 10 years." In the footage, she is seen lifting kettlebells and dumbbells, demonstrating the disciplined strength training behind her fat-free silhouette.

Kettlebells: A Versatile Tool for Full-Body Power

Muscle mass naturally declines with age, but full-body resistance training can slow this process and maintain a healthy basal metabolic rate. Jung’s tool of choice, the kettlebell, is highly effective for improving strength, endurance, agility, and cardiovascular health.

Common movements include the kettlebell swing—lifting the weight from the floor and swinging it to chest height—which engages the entire posterior chain. However, experts warn that improper form can lead to injury. It is crucial to avoid lifting the weight too high or dropping it abruptly. Beginners should start with manageable weights; generally, 4kg is recommended for women and 12kg for men. The focus should always remain on precision and form over heavy lifting.

Enhancing the Squat with Dumbbell Resistance

Jung also incorporates dumbbell squats into her regimen, a powerhouse move for the lower body and core. By adding weights to a traditional squat, she increases resistance on the quadriceps, glutes, and core, which is vital for maintaining bone density.

For women, this is particularly important post-menopause, as weight-bearing exercises stimulate bone growth and mitigate density loss. When performing these squats, it is essential to sit back as if into a chair, ensuring the knees do not cave inward, which protects the back and joints from unnecessary strain.

Fueling Muscle Growth with Quality Protein

Exercise is only half the battle; proper nutrition is required to repair and maintain muscle tissue. After a session, it is vital to consume high-quality proteins such as eggs, fish, tofu, chicken breast, or Greek yogurt. Consistent protein intake ensures that the hard work put in at the gym translates into lasting physical strength.
