Musical actress Ok Joo-hyun pointed out hydration as her secret to health management.

Recently, Ok Joo-hyun appeared on KBS Cool FM's 'Haha's Super Radio' and shared her personal health philosophy. Ok Joo-hyun said, "The reason I am sensitive about my health is to enjoy and perform my work efficiently," adding, "So, the time when I am performing is when I am the healthiest."

Ok Joo-hyun emphasized that hydration is the most important for health management. She mentioned, "The amount of water consumed the day before can significantly affect the performance condition the next day," and stated, "It's not just about drinking a lot of water, but also about consuming fruits and vegetables together."

She said, "When you pay attention like this, aging definitely slows down," and added, "If you manage it now, it seems you won't waste money later."

How much water should you drink?

The water that Ok Joo-hyun highlighted is a substance necessary for sustaining life, making up about 70% of our body. When water is insufficient, our body can experience symptoms such as thirst, headaches, fatigue, and dehydration. Therefore, it is important to consciously drink water like Ok Joo-hyun.

So, how much water should one drink? It is widely known that a water intake of about 2L is good, but it varies depending on individual weight, activity level, and eating habits. Generally, an adult's daily water output is about 3.1L, with 1-1.5L coming from urine and feces. Additionally, about 0.1L of water is produced during cellular metabolism, so it is advisable to drink within 2L. At this time, the intake can be adjusted according to activity levels.

In addition to water, it is also important to frequently consume foods rich in vitamins and minerals. As Ok Joo-hyun mentioned, eating fruits and vegetables often can also suppress aging. This is because they are rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C and selenium. These nutrients inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species in the body. Reactive oxygen species are harmful substances that attack cells and cause aging and inflammation.

Drinking excessively without thought can also be dangerous

However, for individuals with issues related to the kidneys, heart, or thyroid, excessively supplementing hydration can be toxic. Patients with kidney failure may not be able to excrete water properly and need to regulate their water intake. The same goes for vegetables and fruits rich in potassium. It is advisable to avoid consuming more than 2L of water per day. In severe situations requiring dialysis, it is said that about 3-5 cups based on 200mL of water is appropriate.

Patients with heart failure may find it easy to have a reduced blood volume leaving the heart. Even without drinking a lot of water, blood volume and pressure can increase, allowing blood to reach every corner of the body. Excessive hydration can raise blood pressure and may lead to water flowing into the lungs or brain. Water can accumulate in tissues and organs, so it is necessary to drink less than 1L of water per day.
