Comedian Kim Hae-jun shared his recent weight gain after marrying comedian Kim Seung-hye.

Recently, Kim Seung-hye posted a video on her YouTube channel featuring her husband Kim Hae-jun and members of 'Pisik University' visiting a nutrition ice festival. Despite the cold, they enjoyed the festival and later moved to a restaurant, where Kim Seung-hye took care of Kim Hae-jun, who quickly finished a bowl of rice, saying, "Eat more."

In response, the members of Pisik University expressed envy but pointed out, "That's why you became 114kg after getting married." They continued, "When we went to (his) house, there were 4 meat side dishes," to which Kim Seung-hye admitted, "We must have meat at all times."

Last month, Kim Hae-jun appeared on MBC's 'Radio Star' and said, "After doing a food entertainment show for 3 years, my stomach has expanded. I was 85kg, but now I'm about 102kg. At my heaviest, I reached 109kg," adding, "After getting married, my wife prepared diet food for me, and even with exercise, I couldn't lose weight. I thought about why that was, and it turned out my wife was giving me duck meat mixed with a mountain of vegetables. That's why I couldn't lose weight." If he gained weight up to 114kg, it seems Kim Hae-jun has gained about 15-20kg since marrying Kim Seung-hye in October 2024. Could meat be the cause of his weight gain?

Meat Side Dishes and Weight Gain

It's important to consume healthy foods in moderation. Eating a lot of meat side dishes can lead to weight gain due to excess calories. In Kim Hae-jun's case, he appears happy with the meals prepared by his wife Kim Seung-hye after marriage, but thanks to the love-filled meat side dishes, he continues to gain weight.

Meat is rich in fat and protein, making it high in calories, and excessive intake can lead to body fat accumulation. Fatty cuts or added oils during cooking increase the calories, and especially when eaten with rice, it leads to overeating, causing a significant increase in total calories and making it easy to gain weight. High-fat meats can easily exceed 200-300kcal per 100g. According to research, consuming 250g of meat daily can lead to a 2kg weight increase after 5 years.

Red meats like beef and pork, which are high in saturated fat, increase insulin resistance and promote fat accumulation, while processed meats or fatty cuts can cause temporary weight gain due to sodium-induced water retention. Even a low-carb meat-based diet can lead to weight gain due to excessive animal fats, and an unbalanced diet is the fundamental cause.

How to Eat Meat Healthily

To enjoy meat side dishes while maintaining weight, it's essential to manage calorie balance and intake methods. Choose lean meats like chicken breast and sirloin and remove fatty parts. Instead of frying or grilling with oil, steam or boil the meat. Eating lean cuts like neck meat or front leg meat instead of pork belly can reduce fat intake by 30-0%. Eating with onions and garlic can reduce carcinogens and calories. Limit to 100g per day and avoid overeating.

The order of eating is also important. Eating raw vegetables and salads first can increase satiety, preventing blood sugar spikes when eating meat afterward. Eating with lettuce or perilla leaves is also a good method. Reduce the amount of rice by half, and 1-2 meat side dishes are appropriate, minimizing sauces and seasonings, replacing them with herbs and salt. If you had meat for lunch, plan your dinner with tofu or fish for protein balance.
