Comedian Shim Jin-hwa revealed a seasonal diet food that is low in fat and rich in protein.

Recently, Shim Jin-hwa posted a photo of a meal that included fresh oysters and vegetable wraps on her social media. She also certified her enjoyment of golden-brown grilled oyster pancakes with her family. Now, let’s take a look at the nutritional value and precautions of the oysters chosen by Shim Jin-hwa, who has successfully lost 12kg.

Oysters are Good for Immunity and Diet

Oysters are one of the representative low-fat, high-protein foods. According to the National Standard Food Composition Table, the calorie content of 100g of fresh oysters is relatively low at 64kcal. However, they are packed with nutrients. According to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, oysters are rich in protein, iron, taurine, and zinc.

100g of oysters contains about 78mg of zinc, which far exceeds the recommended daily intake of 9mg for adults. Zinc enhances the function of immune cells and maintains vascular health. People with anemia or fatigue can also benefit from eating oysters. Iron prevents anemia, and taurine helps liver function and alleviates fatigue.

However, even the best foods can be risky for some people. For those suffering from gout or with high uric acid levels, the high protein content in oysters can be dangerous. If you have underlying health conditions, it is essential to consult a professional to determine the appropriate intake.

Caution Against Norovirus… Washing Does Not Eliminate It

Oysters, which are in season during winter (November to February), are good for the body but also carry a risk of norovirus infection. This is because oysters can concentrate viruses in their bodies while filtering seawater along with microorganisms. Infection with norovirus can lead to sudden vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly may be at risk of dehydration.

The problem is that even washing oysters thoroughly does not remove norovirus. The only safe way to eat oysters is to cook them. Heating them at 85-90℃ for more than 1 minute will kill most viruses. Oyster soup and oyster pancakes are relatively safe. Therefore, if you usually have a weak immune system and often suffer from stomach issues, it is better not to eat raw oysters.
