Juan Nanuri Hospital held a specialized spine and joint consultation program titled "Nanuri Health Consultation Day When You’re in Pain" for Vietnamese residents in South Korea on August 12. The event followed a similar medical volunteer initiative for Mongolian foreign workers in June, marking the hospital’s second health outreach program for foreign residents this year.
Language barriers and limited access to healthcare information often prevent foreign residents from seeking timely medical care. To address this gap, orthopedic specialists led individual consultations while volunteer interpreters assisted participants through every step of the process—from registration and initial intake to diagnostic testing and medical evaluations.
The hospital provided essential health screenings, including blood sugar checks, alongside X-rays and ultrasound examinations for affected areas. Based on the results, medical staff explained the root causes of spine and joint pain, administered physical therapy, and offered personalized guidance on lifestyle modifications and ongoing treatment plans.
About 20 foreign residents participated in the June event for Mongolian workers, which was organized in partnership with a local migrant support center and the Mongolian community..
Official Designation and Expanded International Services
In addition to its community outreach, Juan Nanuri Hospital recently received official designation as a Pre-Employment Medical Examination Provider from the Ministry of Justice. Foreign nationals seeking employment or training visas in South Korea are required to undergo mandatory health screenings, including tests for tuberculosis, infectious diseases, and narcotics. These test reports are legally valid only when issued by medical institutions explicitly designated by the Ministry of Justice. With this official accreditation, foreign workers in the region can now complete their mandatory pre-employment physicals directly at Juan Nanuri Hospital's comprehensive health screening center.
To support its growing foreign patient base, the hospital also established an "International Care Supporters" team in the first half of the year. Comprising medical interpreters and international medical coordinators fluent in languages such as Mongolian and Vietnamese, the team helps ensure non-Korean patients receive seamless care without facing language or cultural obstacles.
"In our local community, many foreign residents struggle to receive timely medical care and health management due to language barriers, cultural differences, and a lack of information," said Hospital Director Kim Hyung-jin. "Juan Nanuri Hospital will continue to expand our support by integrating specialized spine and joint care with comprehensive health screenings and dedicated medical interpretation services."
Kim added, "With our new Ministry of Justice designation, we plan to actively scale up our health screening services for foreign workers, serving as a trusted healthcare provider that foreign residents can visit with complete confidence."
