Samsung Medical Center has once again met the global gold standard for electronic medical records and digital medical imaging.

The hospital announced on the 10th that it has achieved Stage 7 recertification—the highest tier achievable—in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) evaluations for Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) and Digital Imaging Adoption Model (DIAM). EMRAM measures the adoption and operational depth of electronic medical records, while DIAM assesses digital transformation maturity in medical imaging. The recertification comes three years after the hospital first earned the designation in 2023.

With this latest achievement, Samsung Medical Center maintains top ratings across all four HIMSS evaluation categories, including healthcare IT infrastructure (INFRAM) and the Adoption Model for Analytics Maturity (AMAM). HIMSS evaluates digital advancement in medical institutions to enhance patient safety and quality of care, serving as the world's premier digital health certification body.

During the review—the hospital's first since launching its AX (AI Transformation) Promotion Group in June—the institution earned high marks for its enterprise-wide AI governance framework and pilot-stage smart patient rooms. Standout innovations include a smart toilet that automatically measures pulse and body temperature while a patient is seated, and a mirror that issues voice alerts upon detecting irregular heartbeats. The hospital has also introduced a mobile application that automatically updates its interface and features based on the patient's journey, from appointment check-in to post-treatment recovery.

Samsung Medical Center also highlighted an in-house automated nursing scheduler as another key digital service. Capable of generating department-by-department shift rosters with a single click, the system is scheduled for deployment by the end of the year.

Lee Kyu-sung, head of the AX Promotion Group and a professor of urology, said, “This recertification confirms that our digital transformation capabilities meet the highest global standards,” adding, “Over the next three years, we will further expand our AI integration to solidify our leadership in AI-driven healthcare globally.”
