Dongkook Pharmaceutical’s newly launched prune drink, developed exclusively for retail chain Daiso, sold out its initial production run just eight days after hitting store shelves.

The company announced on July 29 that its dual-formula beverage, "MyPop Prune & Dietary Fiber," temporarily went out of stock early in its market rollout. The release marks the first prune juice product ever introduced at Daiso.

MyPop Prune & Dietary Fiber features an innovative container design that keeps liquid and solid ingredients separate until consumption. When users press down on the cap, a tablet stored in the upper compartment drops directly into the prune juice below, allowing consumers to take both simultaneously without carrying separate supplement containers.

The liquid portion contains 1,000 mg of prune concentrate, while the cap houses a tablet containing 3 g of indigestible maltodextrin, a soluble dietary fiber. The product retails for 2,000 won per bottle.

Industry observers attribute the rapid sellout to Daiso’s extensive retail footprint and the highly accessible 2,000-won price point. The convenience of purchasing individual bottles at neighborhood locations significantly lowered the trial barrier for first-time buyers.

Novel Packaging Drives Viral Interest and Retail Expansion

The product's interactive packaging has also driven consumer engagement on social media, where users have shared video clips demonstrating the press-to-drop cap mechanism. This all-in-one format combining liquid and dietary supplements has served as a primary market differentiator.

In recent months, Daiso has aggressively expanded its inventory beyond beauty and cosmetics to encompass wellness products, including vitamin beverages and inner-beauty supplements. As price-conscious consumers seek functional items at value prices, major pharmaceutical and healthcare companies are increasingly launching Daiso-exclusive product lines.

However, Dongkook Pharmaceutical clarified that MyPop Prune & Dietary Fiber is categorized as a general food product rather than a certified health functional food. Although enriched with dietary fiber, it is not formulated to treat or prevent specific medical conditions.

"The product has generated strong consumer response since launch by offering taste, nutrition, and exceptional value," a Dongkook Pharmaceutical official said. "We plan to continuously expand our portfolio of wellness offerings tailored specifically for the Daiso retail channel."

The MyPop lineup comprises three variants: Prune & Dietary Fiber, Red Ginseng & Vitamin B, and Fermented Enzymes & Japanese Apricot. All three products feature the signature press-cap dual delivery system.
