The Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences (DIRAMS) and the Busan Global City Foundation have entered a strategic partnership to provide vital linguistic support for foreign residents. On March 5, the two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the medical center in Gijang-gun, Busan, aimed at eliminating communication hurdles for those seeking specialized medical care.
Dispatching Interpretation Supporters to the Frontlines
Under the new agreement, the Busan Global City Foundation will dispatch trained foreign language interpretation supporters to DIRAMS. These specialists will assist foreign patients who struggle with the Korean language, ensuring that diagnoses, treatment plans, and administrative procedures are accurately communicated.
Beyond immediate patient care, the foundation will provide consulting and information-sharing services to bolster the center's international medical business and global capacity. In return, DIRAMS will offer comprehensive health check-ups and discounts on funeral services to foundation employees and interpretation supporters. Both organizations will also collaborate on medical consultation events and academic exchanges specifically tailored for foreign residents and international students.

DIRAMS is a premier public institution specializing in oncology and radiation medicine. By combining its advanced medical infrastructure with the Busan Global City Foundation’s extensive international network, the partnership creates a model for local medical institutions seeking to compete on a global scale.
Director Lee Chang-hoon of DIRAMS emphasized that the initiative aims to create an environment where foreign patients can "receive treatment more comfortably and with peace of mind." CEO Jeon Yong-woo of the Busan Global City Foundation added that medical services are a critical concern for the international community, stating, "We will create a cooperative model that provides practical help by integrating our experience in supporting foreigners with the specialized expertise of the medical field."
