She stated, "I did cold compresses on my philtrum to help it settle down," and added, "I dare say that my current appearance is my best look yet."
What is Philtrum Reduction Surgery?
The philtrum reduction surgery that Lee Ji-hye underwent is a procedure that shortens the length of the philtrum. Reducing the length of the philtrum in proportion to the entire face creates a youthful effect. When a person's face is divided into three equal parts, if the middle section (the midface) is long, it can make them look older.
The philtrum, located between the nose and the lips, is related to the proportion of the midface on the face. Therefore, the length of the philtrum can easily affect the balance and impression of the face. The length of the philtrum is determined genetically but can become longer due to environmental factors. As one ages and skin elasticity decreases, the philtrum and the corners of the mouth can sag. When the length of the philtrum is shortened, the upper lip may appear larger, making the corners of the mouth look like they have dropped. Each person has different causes for a long face and varying lengths of different areas, so it is advisable to have sufficient consultation. A long face can be influenced not only by the philtrum but also by the nose or chin. People with a weak chin or protruding lips can easily appear to have an elongated face.
