Comedian Kim Jun-ho opened up about his blepharoplasty surgery.

Recently, Kim Jun-ho appeared on a variety show and talked about his experience with blepharoplasty. He said, "At some point, I developed double eyelids that I never had before," and added, "Since I do a lot of facial expressions while performing comedy, wrinkles started to appear quickly."

He confessed that he felt increased fatigue in his eyes and underwent surgery to remove fat from his eyebrows ten years ago. He mentioned that he later proceeded with blepharoplasty. Comedian Moon Se-yoon, after seeing the before-and-after photos, remarked, "You look like a completely different person." Let's take a look at blepharoplasty.

Blepharoptosis, a condition of weak eyelid lifting strength

Blepharoptosis is a condition where the strength to lift the eyelids is weak, making it difficult to raise the upper eyelid. The muscle called the levator palpebrae, which exists within the eyelid, is responsible for opening the eyes. However, if this muscle is weak either congenitally or acquired, symptoms such as drooping of the upper eyelid, which covers the black pupil, may occur.

It is also common for overlapping wrinkles to form on the eyelids, and the eyelids may appear sunken, which are symptoms of blepharoptosis. The eyes may not look clear, giving a sleepy impression. The forehead or eyebrows may be used to open the eyes. As a result, deep wrinkles can easily form on the forehead, and the position of the eyebrows may be raised. When looking straight ahead, one may habitually lift their chin. Symptoms such as decreased vision and persistent headaches may also occur.

Possible side effects of less eyelid closure

If blepharoptosis is left untreated, concerns about aesthetics deepen, and functional discomfort is inevitable. Therefore, it is advisable to consult with a specialist to assess the degree of blepharoptosis and consider surgery. Undergoing blepharoptosis correction surgery makes it easier to open the eyes. It is usually performed using an incision method, adjusting the advancement of the muscle for correction. Non-incisional eyelid correction is suitable for those with mild blepharoptosis.

If blepharoptosis is well-corrected, there is less swelling and a shorter recovery period. However, side effects such as eyelashes and mucosa being lifted and less eyelid closure may occur. It may appear as if the eyes are open while sleeping. Discomfort around the eyelids or headaches may accompany this. In cases of excessive correction, re-surgery may be necessary.
