A domestic research team has developed artificial intelligence (AI)-based personalized cancer vaccine design technology that optimizes individual cancer treatment effects.

The bio-digital healthcare company SCL Science announced on the 2nd that the research team led by CEO Choi Jeong-kyun of Neogen Logic and a professor at KAIST's Department of Bio and Brain Engineering has developed a new AI model that predicts neoantigens, a key element in the development of personalized cancer vaccines. This research paper was recently published in the international journal 《Science Advances》.

The research team noted that by reflecting B cell reactivity in neoantigens, which are immune attack markers unique to cancer cells, cancer vaccines can exhibit an immune effect that 'remembers cancer' beyond a one-time attack and short-term memory. B cells play a crucial role in the immune system alongside T cells.

The research team explained, "Currently, most cancer vaccine technologies focus on T cell-centered immune responses, which limits the adequate reflection of B cell-mediated immune responses," and added, "This research result is the first AI technology that can quantitatively predict B cell reactivity to neoantigens."

Neogen Logic, a subsidiary of SCL Science that is currently commercializing neoantigen AI technology, is in the stage of verifying the safety and efficacy of its personalized cancer vaccine platform.

Professor Choi stated, "We are preparing to submit an Investigational New Drug (IND) application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with the goal of entering clinical trials by 2027," and added, "We will enhance the scientific completeness of cancer vaccine development based on our proprietary AI technology and gradually promote the transition to clinical stages."
