Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital announced on August 3 that it received the top Grade 1 rating in the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service’s (HIRA) 11th Acute Stroke Adequacy Assessment. The result marks the hospital’s 11th consecutive Grade 1 rating since the national evaluation program was introduced, reinforcing its standing in cerebrovascular care.
The assessment evaluated general hospitals and tertiary medical centers nationwide that treated acute stroke patients admitted through emergency rooms during the six-month period from October 2024 to March 2025.
Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital posted an overall score of 99.46 points, far exceeding the 85.17-point average for all medical institutions and topping the 99.25-point average for tertiary general hospitals.
Perfect Marks Across Key Evaluation Metrics
The hospital earned top marks and perfect scores across all primary clinical indicators, highlighting its robust medical infrastructure. On structural measures, it received the highest "A" grade for its dedicated Stroke Unit after satisfying all requirements for facilities, equipment, and specialized staffing.
The center also recorded a 100% compliance rate across critical process indicators. These included performing intra-arterial thrombectomy within 120 minutes of arrival, administering definitive treatment for subarachnoid hemorrhage within 24 hours, conducting early rehabilitation assessments, and completing functional evaluations. On outcome indicators, the hospital recorded a 0% incidence rate for in-hospital pneumonia in both hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke patients, underscoring its strict infection control and patient safety protocols.
Protecting Stroke Patients Within the Golden Time
"Cerebrovascular disease is a high-risk condition ranking as the fourth leading cause of death in South Korea, where a rapid and systematic initial response determines patient survival," said Kim Jun-hyung, president of Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital.
