SK Bioscience announced on the 9th that it has launched the quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine 'MenQuadfi' in Korea in collaboration with the French company Sanofi's Korean branch.
MenQuadfi is a vaccine developed by Sanofi that can be administered to individuals aged 6 weeks and older up to 55 years, preventing invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) caused by the major serogroups 'A·C·W·Y'. This product features a fully liquid formulation that can be administered without a separate dilution process. Among the quadrivalent meningococcal vaccines approved in Korea, MenQuadfi is the only product that includes serogroup A and can be used for infants aged 6 weeks to under 24 months.
MenQuadfi is administered via intramuscular injection, with a dosage of 0.5 mL per dose. The number of doses varies by age: △Infants aged 6 weeks to under 6 months (4 doses) △Infants aged 6 months to under 24 months (2 doses) △Ages 2 to 55 years (1 dose).
SK Bioscience CEO Ahn Jae-yong stated, "With the introduction of MenQuadfi, we have expanded the options for preventing invasive meningococcal disease for infants and children in Korea," and added, "We will continue to supply vaccines that can strengthen the domestic infectious disease prevention environment and contribute to public health based on global partnerships."
Meningococcal infections are transmitted through respiratory secretions such as nasal mucus or saliva and can also be contracted from asymptomatic carriers. They can exist asymptomatically in the human nasopharynx and invade the bloodstream or central nervous system under certain conditions, leading to meningitis or sepsis. The risk of infection increases with close contact among family members or in communal living environments.
