Uijeongbu Eulji University Hospital is launching an integrated cancer care system designed to eliminate the logistical burden on patients, who often must navigate separate appointments across multiple departments and testing schedules following a cancer diagnosis.
The hospital announced Sept. 3 that it has officially opened Beomseok Memorial Cancer Hospital. The center unifies multidisciplinary consultations, rapid diagnostic workflows, and one-stop treatment pathways while establishing a co-treatment network with sister institution Nowon Eulji University Hospital.
Beomseok Memorial Cancer Hospital initially centers care around six disease-specific categories: breast cancer, lung and esophageal cancer, gynecologic cancer, thyroid cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, and urologic cancer. To cover urologic malignancies, urology faculty from Nowon Eulji University Hospital travel to Uijeongbu to examine patients directly.
With 16 dedicated medical specialists, the center currently offers 31 outpatient clinical sessions per week, with plans to expand disease coverage and clinical capacity in phases based on patient volume.
Multidisciplinary "ONE TEAM" Approach and Fast-Track Pathways
Cancer treatment frequently extends beyond surgery to encompass chemotherapy, radiation therapy, advanced imaging, and pathology analysis, with sequencing tailored to each patient's condition. To consolidate these steps into a seamless workflow, Beomseok Memorial Cancer Hospital centers its care model on multidisciplinary team (MDT) consultations.
Under this approach, specialists from surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, and pathology jointly review patient records during a designated daily time slot (12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on weekdays). This collaborative review ensures a unified treatment plan and prevents critical gaps during transitions between surgical resection and post-operative adjuvant therapies.
To minimize diagnostic delays, the center also operates a dedicated cancer hotline and assigns specialized clinical coordinators to referred patients. This fast-track "ONE JOURNEY" pathway coordinates specialist evaluations, imaging, and treatment decisions immediately upon suspicion or diagnosis of malignancy.
Inter-Hospital "ONE HUB" Collaboration and Medical Legacy
The integrated care model extends beyond Uijeongbu Eulji University Hospital through a formal cross-coverage network with Nowon Eulji University Hospital. Having established joint referral protocols in August, urology specialists from the Nowon campus began conducting direct outpatient consultations in Uijeongbu on Sept. 1.
The inter-hospital "ONE HUB" initiative currently emphasizes co-treatment for hepatobiliary-pancreatic, lung, and urologic cancers, alongside cross-coverage in breast surgery. The system ensures that patients requiring subspecialty expertise can be seamlessly managed within the broader Eulji University Medical Center framework.
The center's name honors the late Park Young-ha, founder of the Eulji Foundation, whose pen name was "Beomseok." The hospital structured its operational philosophy around four core pillars: ONE TEAM (multidisciplinary care), ONE JOURNEY (fast-track navigation), ONE HUB (regional hospital integration), and ONE GOAL (patient-centered outcomes).
"Beomseok Memorial Cancer Hospital is designed to connect the entire care continuum into a single, cohesive experience," said Song Byung-joo, director of Beomseok Memorial Cancer Hospital. "Instead of requiring patients to navigate departments and diagnostic appointments on their own, our medical team and clinical infrastructure align directly around the patient. We will continuously refine our multidisciplinary consultations, rapid one-stop care, and inter-hospital linkage to strengthen our patient-centered cancer care capabilities."
