Actress Ki Eun-se, 43, recently revealed that she underwent a cosmetic procedure to reduce wrinkles on her hands after being targeted by malicious comments online. In a video uploaded to her YouTube channel on June 4, Ki Eun-se gave viewers a tour of her newly renovated home before opening up about the treatment.
"In my cooking videos, my fingers are tightly framed, so they get a lot of screen time," Ki Eun-se explained. "People left comments saying things like, 'Your hands look like they're in their 50s or 60s' and 'They look like a grandma's hands.' It stressed me out so much that I decided to get injections for my finger wrinkles."
She added, "My hands aren't in great condition right now, but I'll share a full review after some time has passed. Comments truly have an impact. They hurt," she said, urging netizens to refrain from leaving hate comments. Although Ki Eun-se attempted to cover her hands with her sleeves during the video, a brief glimpse revealed deep bruising along her fingers.
Hands are famously one of the first areas of the body to show visible signs of aging, and correcting these wrinkles can be notoriously difficult. The challenge is so pronounced that the late fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld, the iconic designer who represented the luxury brand Chanel, famously wore gloves to keep the backs of his hands hidden from public view.

Why Hands Age Faster Than the Face and How Treatments Work
The skin on the hands is significantly thinner than that on the face and contains far less subcutaneous fat. Combined with constant daily use, frequent washing, and continuous exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, the hands lose elasticity rapidly over time. As the skin thins, underlying veins and tendons become more prominent, making wrinkles appear deeper.
Once these wrinkles set in, completely erasing them is nearly impossible. Instead, modern dermatological procedures focus on restoring skin volume and elasticity to soften their appearance. Experts note that a realistic goal for hand rejuvenation is making aging signs less noticeable rather than achieving flawless elimination.

From Fillers to Skin Boosters: Common Procedures and Side Effects
One of the most common treatments is back-of-hand dermal filler using hyaluronic acid. By injecting filler into sunken areas, dermatologists can mask protruding veins and tendons, smoothing out the skin's surface and minimizing fine lines.
More recently, skin boosters utilizing Rejuran, polynucleotides (PN), and polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) have gained popularity for combating hand aging. Rather than providing the immediate plumping effect of fillers, these boosters stimulate natural collagen production and tissue regeneration over several weeks, gradually improving skin texture, relieving dryness, and smoothing fine lines. Other options include Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy—which utilizes platelets extracted from the patient's own blood—and targeted laser treatments.
While some viewers expressed concern over the dark bruises on Ki Eun-se's hands, experts reassure that bruising and swelling are common, temporary side effects. Because the skin on the hands is thin and densely packed with blood vessels, injection-based procedures frequently cause bruising that typically resolves naturally within one to two weeks.
Prevention Over Procedures: The Importance of Sunscreen and Moisture
Because hand wrinkles are so difficult to reverse, dermatologists emphasize that prevention is far more effective than clinical intervention. Consistent UV protection and dedicated moisturizing are the twin pillars of hand anti-aging.
Just like the face, the backs of the hands require daily sunscreen application, especially during outdoor activities or while driving, and should be reapplied frequently. Additionally, hands must be moisturized immediately after washing to replenish lost hydration. Using specialized hand creams formulated with hyaluronic acid or ceramides several times a day will help maintain a strong skin barrier.
Finally, everyday habits play a crucial role. Wearing gloves during household chores shields the skin from harsh detergents, while avoiding excessive use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers prevents severe dryness. Lifestyle factors like avoiding smoking—which accelerates collagen breakdown—and prioritizing adequate sleep and balanced nutrition are equally vital to keeping hands looking youthful.
