Chong Kun Dang is expanding its flagship over-the-counter cold medicine lineup by introducing dual active-ingredient options tailored to specific symptoms and pain-relief preferences.
The South Korean pharmaceutical company announced on Aug. 31 that it has launched six new soft-capsule products: three under the "Modcol Strong Soft Capsules" line and three under the "Modcol Ibu Soft Capsules" line. Soft capsules enclose liquid or semi-solid drug ingredients within a flexible gelatin shell, enabling faster absorption.
With these additions, the Modcol brand now offers products formulated with either acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Acetaminophen is a widely used antipyretic and analgesic for fever and pain, while ibuprofen offers fever and pain relief alongside anti-inflammatory properties. Chong Kun Dang developed the dual product lines to provide consumers with broader choices based on their individual symptom profiles and ingredient preferences.
The Modcol Strong Soft Capsule line comes in three symptom-targeted formulations: Cold, Nose, and Cough. Each capsule contains 250 mg of acetaminophen, delivering a total daily dosage of 1,500 mg when taken according to directions—the maximum allowable level under South Korea's standard manufacturing criteria for combination cold medicines. Additionally, the Cold and Cough variants contain bromhexine hydrochloride, an expectorant that helps clear mucus.
The Modcol Ibu Soft Capsule line also features Cold, Nose, and Cough varieties. Each capsule contains 75 mg of ibuprofen to address pain, fever, and inflammation, providing a total daily dosage of 450 mg based on the recommended administration schedule—the maximum limit under standard manufacturing criteria.
"These new products segment our lineup by key active ingredients, expanding the range of tailored choices for cold patients according to their specific symptoms and preferred analgesic mechanism," a Chong Kun Dang official said.
