Dongkook Pharmaceutical has expanded its skincare portfolio with a new moisturizing cream that incorporates polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) into its existing repair formula while significantly reducing texture stickiness.
Madeca Pharmacia, Dongkook Pharmaceutical’s specialized derma-repair brand, announced on the 25th the release of its “TECA Plus Formula Facial Repair Cream Light.”
The new formulation retains key active ingredients from the brand’s original Facial Repair Cream—including titrated extract of Centella asiatica (TECA), dexpanthenol, and adenosine—while newly adding PDRN. Composed of DNA fragments widely researched for tissue regeneration, PDRN has recently emerged as a sought-after functional ingredient in high-performance cosmetics.
Dongkook Pharmaceutical stated that the updated formula enhances moisture retention and absorption efficiency while delivering a lighter, non-sticky finish compared to the original product. The company specifically calibrated the texture for individuals with oily yet dehydrated skin, as well as for comfortable application during hot and humid weather.
According to clinical application testing cited by the company, internal skin hydration levels increased by more than 15% following a single use, with moisturizing effects persisting up to 48 hours. Detailed parameters of the study design—such as sample size, testing agency, or control group comparisons—were not disclosed in the released materials.
Topical PDRN versus Injections: Clear Functional Distinction
PDRN, short for polydeoxyribonucleotide, has long been studied and utilized in regenerative medicine and aesthetic dermatology, and is now increasingly featured in topical formulations such as creams and concentrated ampoules.
However, industry experts emphasize that topical cosmetics applied to the skin must be clearly distinguished from clinical PDRN injections administered directly into the dermis. Because PDRN faces natural physiological limitations in penetrating the epidermal barrier, topical application cannot be expected to yield the same regenerative outcomes as injectable medical procedures. Consequently, researchers continue to explore novel delivery systems to enhance transdermal absorption.
The clinical findings disclosed for this product remain focused primarily on parameters evaluating immediate skin hydration and moisture retention duration.
Expanding Retail Reach Across 6,000 Pharmacies and Department Stores
Madeca Pharmacia is a derma-cosmetics brand developed by Dongkook Pharmaceutical based on its extensive therapeutic research into Centella asiatica. The brand currently supplies approximately 6,000 pharmacies nationwide.
In July, the brand expanded its retail footprint by entering "Be Clean," a clean-beauty curated shop operated by Hyundai Department Store at both its flagship venue, The Hyundai Seoul, and its Mokdong branch. The launch introduced five core Madeca Pharmacia offerings, including the original Facial Repair Cream.
The brand continues to diversify its product portfolio. Alongside its core repair line, Madeca Pharmacia offers the "Mela Touch Cream" for brightening, "Hand Urea Cream" formulated with 95,000 ppm of urea, multi-functional sunscreens providing broad-spectrum UV protection, brightening, and anti-wrinkle benefits, as well as a dual-functional brightening and anti-wrinkle ampoule containing 10,000 ppm of PDRN.
