Maintaining oral health is a lifelong necessity, but when complications arise, the financial and physical toll can be immense. As dental technology advances rapidly in an era where centenarian lifespans are becoming the norm, a major upcoming exhibition offers a comprehensive look at next-generation dentistry—headlined by artificial intelligence capable of analyzing dental X-rays.
The 2026 Daegu International Dental Congress & Exhibition (DIDEX 2026), the largest dental festival representing South Korea's Yeongnam region, will open at EXCO in Daegu for a three-day run from July 3 to 5. Hosted by the Daegu Dental Association, led by President Heo Young-ju, and sponsored by the Daegu Metropolitan Government, the event is drawing significant industry attention as it runs concurrently with Medi Expo Korea 2026, the region's largest medical industry exhibition. This year's DIDEX features a 200-booth dental equipment exhibition with roughly 60 participating companies, an academic congress spanning nine specialized sessions, and an array of hands-on public programs.
A Gathering of K-Dentistry Industry Leaders
The dental equipment exhibition, occupying the entire first-floor exhibition hall in EXCO’s West Wing, will bring together the premier companies driving South Korea’s global dental market, including Osstem Implant, MegaGen, Dentis, Shinhung, and Dentium. These industry leaders will showcase a wide array of cutting-edge dental devices, advanced digital equipment, and the latest dental biomaterials leading the global market. Organizers expect the dedicated business networking venues to bring prominent domestic and international buyers together, paving the way for local firms to expand overseas and energizing the broader dental care market.
From Implant Solutions to AI Diagnostics
The academic congress, designed to sharpen clinicians' practical skills, will take place on July 4 and 5 on the third floor of EXCO. The lectures, distributed across nine sessions, feature top-tier domestic speakers tackling real-world challenges faced by private practices. A primary highlight centers on research trends in AI-based dental imaging diagnostics, widely regarded as the cornerstone of future dentistry.
The curriculum will also deliver targeted solutions for common clinical hurdles, including occlusal disorders, temporomandibular disorders (TMD), peri-implantitis, and endodontic-periodontal lesions. Additional sessions will cover medication management for patients with systemic conditions, legal compliance under the Medical Service Act and National Health Insurance Act, digital impressions utilizing intraoral scanners, advanced implant surgery techniques, and clinic labor management. To foster academic exchange, the venue lobby will also showcase 30 research posters detailing the latest clinical outcomes.
A Community Festival for Families and Residents
This year, DIDEX 2026 is expanding its scope beyond a closed professional gathering to serve as an open communication venue highlighting the importance of oral health to the general public. At the oral health education center, organizers will utilize a mobile dental clinic vehicle to provide free oral examinations and consultations for approximately 300 local daycare and kindergarten children, alongside 3,000 Daegu residents.
Interactive programs designed to reinforce preventive care will run throughout the weekend, offering one-on-one instruction on proper toothbrushing, face painting, oral health quizzes, and commemorative photo zones. The event also incorporates a vibrant cultural program, including the "Musical Gala Concert (Breeze)," which features celebrated numbers from four of the world’s major musicals alongside acclaimed South Korean original productions. Visitors can also enjoy caricatures, a self-photo studio, and various games. To accommodate attending professionals with families, the exhibition hall will introduce its first-ever children's playroom, allowing members with young children to focus on the lectures with peace of mind.
Additionally, the Daegu Dental Association will operate a promotional booth advocating for the establishment of the National Institute of Dental Research in Daegu. Staff will distribute promotional leaflets and souvenirs to visitors while hosting various interactive events to build public support for the initiative.
