Keimyung University Daegu Dongsan Hospital has transformed its once-sterile corridors and examination rooms into a warm, welcoming "healing art museum."
On the 10th, Daegu Dongsan Hospital, led by Hospital Director Kim Sang-hyun, announced the launch of a large-scale permanent art exhibition throughout its facilities. The installations span outpatient care areas as well as the Daegu Metropolitan City Public Children’s Rehabilitation Medical Center, with the primary goal of providing emotional stability for young patients and their guardians.
Developed through a close collaboration with Keimyung University’s College of Fine Arts, the project aims to establish a holistic healing environment that fosters psychological recovery alongside conventional medical treatment. Approximately 100 pieces across a wide range of genres—including painting, photography, webtoons, and fashion design—are now on display, offering daily "Visual Therapy" to patients, families, and the general public.
Organizers paid special attention to the layout for young visitors, hanging artwork at an eye level tailored specifically to the children visiting the public rehabilitation center. Infused with the creative imagination of current fine arts students, faculty members, and alumni, the pieces deliver messages of hope and emotional courage to children enduring demanding rehabilitation treatments. The exhibition has also drawn strong positive responses for providing a comforting sanctuary for guardians under constant stress, offering them a quiet place to briefly set down their burdens and catch their breath.
"This exhibition is an excellent example of community contribution, blending the medical field organically with the university's rich artistic infrastructure," said Hospital Director Kim Sang-hyun. "We hope the healing energy of art will support the speedy recovery of our pediatric patients and bring psychological comfort to their guardians."
Kim Yoon-hee, dean of Keimyung University’s College of Fine Arts and a participant in the exhibition, added, "I hope the artistic devotion that our students and alumni have poured into this project with one heart serves as a warm light of hope for everyone visiting the hospital."
Looking ahead, Keimyung University Daegu Dongsan Hospital plans to continue strengthening its patient-centered medical services. The institution aims to expand tailored, arts-based healing programs in partnership with the College of Fine Arts and steadily pursue public-interest initiatives, including design collaborations to continuously improve the hospital environment.
